Should I stay or should I go?

Planning trips and vacations always stress me out. Between coordinating schedules, booking flights, budgeting for gas…wait. Did I really just say that? Vacations shouldn’t be stressful, that defeats the purpose! The next time you think you want to take a vacation, plan a STAYCATION instead. Farragut has everything you could ever need for the sameexperience all in your back yard.

You might be asking yourself, “What is a staycation?” A staycation is an alternative to traveling to a new or far away place; instead, you spend time learning more about the area around you and interacting with your community. Staycations consist of similar activities that you would take part in during regular vacations, just within driving distance of your own home.

One of my favorite parts of a vacation is staying in hotels; the fresh linens, coming back to a newly made bed and being close to all the town has to offer makes hotels a special part of the vacation experience. When you start planning your Farragut staycation, consider all your hotel options closely – after all, we do have nine of them in town! Sometimes, I'll even stay at my own home during a staycation. If my budget doesn’t allow for a hotel stay, I’ll stop by the store to grab a new set of sheets and a plush new bath robe to help transform my home into a cozier space.

I’ve been guilty of being that person rushing down to the hotel lobby, still in my pajamas to make it to the hotel’s breakfast 10 minutes before it’s taken down. While I have an unexplainable love for hotel breakfasts, I'm never truly upset when I miss it because then I have the chance to check out a new restaurant. In Farragut, there are several fine dining options that are worth the visit at least once during your staycation. I always insist on First Watch for brunch, Seasons Innovative Bar & Grille or Restaurant Linderhof for dinner and drinks after at Casual Pint, Mind Yer P’s and Q’s or Water into Wine.

Shopping local is a fun way to show your support for the community you’re in and to learn more about the area’s culture. In Farragut, we have several shopping locations that suit every want and need. I love checking out local handcrafters when I visit somewhere and if you’re like me, you have to stop by The Shoppes at Homespun. For the boutique shoppers, stop by K Town Specialty Shoppe or Embroidery Boutique.

While shopping and dining are crucial for a staycation, any break from everyday life is defined by the memories you make and experiences you share. Whether it’s seeing a movie at Regal Cinemas Pinnacle 18 theater, taking the family ice skating at Cool Sports or for a round of putt-putt at either Sir Goony’s or Putt Putt Golf and Games, there’s always something to keep you busy. Staycations also give you the opportunity to reconnect with your community. By visiting museums, like the Farragut Museum, you can experience the rich history of the area and learn more about what makes the area so special.

Staycations are a great alternative to having to deal with the stresses of traveling far for a vacation and allow for some much-needed relaxation and memory making with the family. By staying local, you take away the stress of having to prepare for the journey and costs that come with it.
